Just a Little Bit Backwards...

I like to look through people's profiles on FFN. It's really cool to see all the stuff people store there.

Another interesting thing is pen names. Some people have very unique Internet names. But enough about that. As I was browsing this person's profile (I won't name names) I happened to see this:
J.K. Rowling is like Obama famous.
Stephanie Meyer is like George Bush famous.
One has accomplished great things...one only thinks they have accomplished great things.

He/She had this in their profile because they didn't like Twilight. Now I'm not saying you can't have an opinion on authors and the books they write, I'm just saying that this person's a little backwards.

Obummer's accomplished things alright, but those aren't great things.

See here.

And especially here.

George Bush and Barack Obama. Both of them have made mistakes, but only one of them accomplished great things.

And here's a hint: it wasn't Obama.

The Kingdom Hearts Survey

Great news! My story, Not Like That! recieved another favorite. And as I was browsing through the person's profile, I found this survey and figured, what the heck. I could use something fun.

Well, not exactly fun, as the Kingdom Hearts fandom is quite possibly the most retarded fandom in the world, and I mean literally retarded. Good fics are few and far between. (And by good fics, I mean not yaoi or yuri.)

Anyway, here's my survey.

THE KH SURVEY

SECTION ONE: The "Favorite" Questions

1. Your favorite KH guy?
Axel. And Emo Boy Zexion places a close second.

2. Your favorite KH girl?
Namine.

3. Your least favorite KH guy? Why?
That one guy in the Organization who has the earth powers. He looks kinda stupid.

4. Your least favorite KH girl? Why?
I don't know.

5. Favorite World? (Includes both KH1 and KH2)
Halloween Town. Definitely Halloween Town.

6. Least Favorite World?
Olypus Coluseum.

7. Favorite Weapon? (Includes both KH1 and KH2)
Ooh! Um... Oh... Zexion's Lexicon. I'd love a weapon that was a book.

8. Least Favorite Weapon?
That one Organization member's tomahawk, which is freaky.

9. Fav. Summon? (includes both KH1 and KH2)
How about King Mickey?

10. Fav. Form? (aka. Sora's Forms)
I dunno. I haven't really thought about it.

11. Favorite Pairing? (includes yaoi coupling) Why?
Anything that DOES NOT INVOLVE SLASH!!

12. Least Fav. Pairing? (includes yaoi couples) Why?
ANY SLASH PAIRING.

13. Any cool crack pairings you've heard of? List 'em.
No. Fandom is retarded and thier crack pairing suck. Though I have to admit, that Xemnas/Kairi thing was pretty dang weird.

14. Weirdest Pairing(s) You've Ever Heard Of?
Xemnas/Kairi. I wanna know how that could happen. Besides, he's at least old enough to be her father.

15. Any "Kh-pet-peeves" you have?
Fandom thinks every creature in the game is gay. I wanna shoot whoever started that.

16. Fav. Partner in KH? (includes both KH1 and KH2)
Dunno. I've only played Chain of Memories.

SECTION TWO: Do you believe it, or not believe it?

17. Do you believe in the Xemnas/Saix theory?
Never.

18. Do you believe that Zexion is emo?
Of course not. Why would I think that about Emo Boy Zexion?

19. Do you believe that Marluxia is gay?
NO! YOU FREAKS!

20. Do you believe that Kairi is the most annoying character in KH
No.

SECTION THREE: Answer Yourself!

21. If Roxas had to choose either Namine or Olette, who would you root for? Why?
Namine. Those two are just meant to be.

22. What's your theory on KH: Birth by Sleep?
I don't know. Unless the fact Namine put Sora to sleep for a year at the end of KH: CoM had something to do with it...

23. Was Chain of Memories a waste of time?
I don't know. I couldn't defeat the game. I'll have to get the manga.

24. If you had the choice of meeting ONE (and ONLY ONE!) KH character, who would it be?
Axel. Definitely Axel.

25. Which KH character do you relate to the most? Why?
Probably Axel. Even though by birth my element is water, I definitely have a more fiery personality.

26. What's the most embarrassing moment that ever happened to you that had something to do with KH?
I don't think I've had one yet.

27. Have you ever cosplayed as a KH character? If so, who? If not, who would you like to cosplay as?
Nope. But I'd go as Larxene so I can have the black coat and not make a fool out of Axel while I cosplay.

28. The Funniest Moment in all of KH would be...?
In the manga, where Donald freezes the whole castle and he and Sora and Goffy team up to try and stop Axel, but they end up sliding right past him.

29. The Hardest Enemy/Boss was...?
Hades. Grr. If he wasn't immune to fire, I'd go in and burn him to death.

30. What was a good edition in KH2 that made it oh-so-addictive?
Organization XIII

SECTION FOUR: Decisions, Decisions...
Note: You MUST only choose one! "Both" or "Neither" in unacceptable!!

31. Hayner or Pence?
And, who exactly are they...?

32. Zexion or Marluxia?
Zexion! Yay!

33. Riku or Roxas?
Umm... Riku.

34. Roxas or Sora?
Eh, Sora.

35. Axel or Demyx?
Axel!

36. Kairi or Larxene?
Kairi 'cause she's not homocidal.

37. AkuRoku or SoRiku?
NEITHER! THEY AREN'T GAY!

38. Namixas or Namiku?
Namixas.

39. Zemyx or AkuRoku?
Read my lips: none of the characters are gay! This is a game for kids for cryin' out Gleason! It's the blasted fandom that's rated T. NEITHER!

40. SoKai or SoRiku?
Absolute SoKai

41. Sea Salt Ice Cream or Paopu Fruit?
Sea Salt Ice Cream.

42. Cloud or Leon?
Leon, I think. Wait, which character is that again? He's the one from Traverse Town, right?

43. CloTi of Clerith?
Clerith

44. Simple and Clean or Passion?
Simple and Clean

SECTION FIVE: The Last Section!!

45. List all the KH character you've fallen for.
Leon's pretty cool, and I like the guys from Organization XIII. Just the guys.

46. What crossovers would you like to see with KH?
Well, I've already crossed it over with Sonic the Hedgehog. I'd like to see someone do that with Yes! PreCure 5. That would be cool.

47. Does anyone in KH look like another character? List 'em all!
Ven and Roxas.

48. Which new KH game can you abosolutely NOT wait for?
Doesn't matter to me.

49. Do you like KH1 or KH2 better? Why?
KH2 because of Organization XIII

50. LAST QUESTION! What makes Kingdom Hearts one of the best games in the world!?
The cool characters. And it would be alot cooler if three-fourths of the fandom could be banned.

The FFN Slang Dictionary

If you spend any amount of time on FanFiction.Net, you will undoubtedly run into odd slag terms. (It's like we're speaking a separate language.) If you spend enough time on FFN, you will eventually begin to learn what these terms mean.

However, even some people who've been on FFN for awhile still find these terms confusing. So over here, I'll list out some of the more common FFN terms, and what they mean. Some of these terms are seen all over the net, and some are exclusive only to FFN.

rolf = Rolling on the floor laughing

lol = laugh/laughing out loud

pwn/pwned = own/owned

R&R = Read & review

OOC = out of character (refers to having character A act different in the fanstory than he did in the movie/book/ whatever he originally came from.)

OC = Other Character. This refers to a character that you designed to put in your fanstory. Also known as fancharacters.

Kawaii = Japanese word for cute

Uber = German word for ultra

AU = Abbreviation for Alternate Universe

n00b = This is what we call newbies. Yes, on the Internet is spelled with two zeroes.

lmao = laughing my @$$ off.

Cannon = Oh, my, this is a hard one to explain. Let me give you an example. In the Sonic the Hedgehog series, one of the characters, Shadow, uses a power called "Chaos Control." In one author's story, he changed Shadow's power so that instead of Chaos Control, Shadow used pyrokinesis. He altered cannon. Do you kind of understand?

Fluff = I'm not really sure about this one. The only thing I can really tell you is that it usually goes hand in hand with Romance stories.

Now, for other important words, that you want to watch out for.

Hentia = Internet term for explicit pictures/ acts.

Lemon = explicit

Lime = like lemon but worse.

....

....
Slash = This term is used to indicate that two of the characters will be involved in homosexual relationships.

Yaoi = This term also refers to two characters involved in a homosexual relationships. This term, however, refers exclusively to two male characters involved in the relationship.

Yuri = Once upon a time, this was a decent, respectable Japanese word for lily. At least until the yaoi-freaks got their hands on it. This refers to homosexual relationships between two female characters.

Slash, Yaoi, and Yuri are posted only for reference. I do not support, promote, or endorse these types of stories.

...

....

So there you have your basic glossary of commonly used FFN terms. if there's any slang I missed that you want to know what it means, leave a comment with the term inquestion, and I'll get back to you.

Rules for Request Fics

Every once in awhile, someone asks me, ‘Can you write me a request fic?’ or ‘Can you write something about this/these character(s)?’ Usually, I can and am willing to do that, though it may take awhile for me to get done. However, as of the last one I wrote (a three-chapter fic that I only got one review for), the rules for these things have become stricter.

1) The person who asks me “can you write --” must review EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER.
I’m not having anymore of the crap I got last time I wrote a request fic. I spend my own time writing someone a story, and so that someone who asked me to write it had better review all of it. The only exception is if the person can’t immediately get to a computer.

2) No fancharacters.
Fancharacters (A.K.A. ‘OCs’) are characters that people make up, designed to fit into a specific fandom. Guess what my last R.F. was about? Yeah. I will let fancharacters play minor roles in R.F.s (all you have to do is give me a decent character bio), but stories revolving completely around an O.C.; don’t even ask.

3) Plot summary must be vague.
This one isn’t quite as strict as the others. For this rule, all this means is that I don’t want a PM saying, “I want a story about this character and the other characters should be this, this and this, and this MUST happen in the story-” I think you get the point. You need to say what you’d like the plot to be, and of course which character(s) you want the story to be about, but I need space to write, too.
4) I refuse to write ANY slash, yaoi, yuri, M-preg, and gender-bender fics.
This gets more enforcement that even the first one. I refuse to write any of these kinds of stories.

5) Be patient.
It may take a while for your story to get done.
Here is a list of places I can write fanfictions for. Be sure to visit my homepage at FanFiction.Net, there's a more complete list over there. (located for your convenience at the top of my profile, under "Author has written XX stories for..."):

Winx Club

Sonic the Hedgehog

Tokyo Mew Mew

Kingdom Hearts

Lord of the Rings

[Navy] NCIS

Futari wa Pretty Cure/any spin-off

Wolverine and the X-Men

Avatar: The Last Airbender
And there you have it. 5 simple rules for a request fic.

Seira's Mirror

No, I did not mistype that title. Seira is the proper spelling of the Japanese name, and it is pronounced the same as "Sarah."

Anyway, another peice of companion art for another story.

Hopefully, this time you can click to enlarge. It didn't work so well last time I tried.

The text in the box reads, "Seira's Mirror... When the twelve Heart Orbs are gathered, Michel's dormant memories will be awakened..."

(Dang, I love that. Sorry, I really do. It's really cryptic.)

This is for my Mermaid Melody story, Kyrie. Here's a summary of the story:

Set 8-10 months after Pure. Michel has been sent to Earth to escape a mysterious force that is after him. However, there's one little problem: he doesn't remember anything before he showed up on Earth. Seira's determined to help him, but that may be harder than she thinks. With no memories and no powers, how's he gonna get back home? And what's hunting him down, anyway?

Do you want to find out?

Click here if you want to read the story. Chapter 2: Tsubasa wo Daite.

Alright, let's get this show on the road! Here are the certificates for the winners of the SFC 2008. To get your award(s), right click and use save picture as. You can link back to this blog post if you wish, but you cannot link directly to the pictures themselves because Picasa will break your links. So just right click and save, then repost these to your blog/image hoster/Deviant Art/wherever. Now let's get started. First, the Winners of Best Multi-Chapter Story:

Next, the winners of Story of The Year:

The winners of Best Romance Story:

The winners from Best Oneshot:

In the category of Best Characterization:

There were three winners in the category of Best Characterization. Anyway, next is the winners of Best Action Story:

There was a five-way tie for Best Humor Story:

Best Horror Story:

Best Parody. These certificates actually say "Best Parody Story." I don't know why it has 'story' on the end, unless I just wasn't thinking when I typed it, or it got mixed up with something else, since most of the categories have 'story' in it somewhere. Either way, no complaining. Here's the awards:

Best Story with One Character:

Saddest Ending:

Best Surprise Ending. There was another five-way tie here:

Best Crossover:

And last, but not least, Best Original Plot:

And there they are, all 37 of them. Since I am human and prone to making mistakes, you may find some errors, though I did try to get everything right. If you spot an error, leave a comment telling who are you are, which award was screwed up, and what needs to be fixed. Then I can fix it, and get back to you on it.

I'd also like it if you left a comment telling me you picked up your awards. (Or have at least seen them.)

Congratulations to all the winners!

The Review Rant

Sometimes, on FanFiction.Net, I see people who say, "I hate how people hold thier stories for Review Ransom." Don't believe me about that? Here's an actual quote from someone's profile (I won't be giving any names.)

One of my pet peeves on ff net is authors who hold a story hostage for reviews, i.e. "If I don't get X reviews, I'm not gonna post any more." All that does is guarantee I won't review. Nor will I read any more of the story. I write to entertain, not get my ego stroked.

Here's another FFN author's view of it:

It's becoming one of my pet peeves- the idea of "review blackmail." You and I both know what I'm talking about: "I won't post the next chapter until I have TEN, yes T-E-N reviews." People- don't write for reviews. You might say "but I don't want to write something that nobody's going to read!" Write for fun, not for reviews. The creative process is a fantastic adventure that shouldn't be squandered on worrying about a "payoff" in the form of reviews. Who knows? If you're a bad writer who enjoys writing, you will keep writing and eventually become a good writer, and the reviews will come on their own. If you're a bad writer who writes for reviews, then you won't get them and you'll get discouraged and quit.

And if you're a good writer, then chances are you have at some point been a bad writer who loved writing, and you won't put those silly blackmail statements at the end of your chapters.

I notice that these two authors are most probably fairly well known in thier respective fandoms, and I therefore doubt that either of them have much trouble getting reviews.

For me, that is not so often the case. When you only write for two or three fandoms, I presume that eventually you will become known in those two or three fandoms. I am not that lucky. Here's the fandoms listing from the top of my profile:
Author has written 60 stories for Winx Club, Sonic the Hedgehog, Cartoon X-overs, Teen Titans, Ned's Declassified SSG, Kingdom Hearts, Avatar: Last Airbender, Navy NCIS, Tokyo Mew Mew, Game X-overs, NiGHTS, Super Smash Brothers, and Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch.

Between the time I began writing this, and actually posted this, I added two more fandoms to that list. You don't become well known by jumping all over fandoms. This causes me problems, becuase I have a wide range of interests, as you can clearly see. And I like to write about these interests. I don't turn down good story ideas.

So I hear people say, "You should write because you like to write, and not because you just want feedback.

I like to write. Therefore I make an attempt to update my stories. You know something? I hate putting all that time and effort into writing another chapter of my story, and then having no one review it. Feedback, or reviews, is what tells me it's worth my time to work on these stories.

But if no one cares, there's no point wasting time working on that story. I can imagine what you'll tell me now: "But you can just check the stats and see if someone read it or not." Just because I got hits doesn't mean anyone read it. The only way I'll know for sure if someone read it is if they review. To illustrate my point, let me tell you the tale of a story called "Recovery."

I wrote that story. At the time, I thought it was a good story idea, so I typed it up and posted it up on FFN. The first chapter didn't get a review. I figured that okay, I left everyone at a nasty cliffhanger, and that's why they aren't reviewing. So I posted the second chapter. No reviews. I finally got one review, when I posted the third chapter.

Reviews were skimpy after that. I don't know how that fic managed to scrape by ,but somehow it did. Finally, by the seventh chapter, I'd lost patience. Here's the note I posted at the bottom of that chapter:

... For a long time I have despised this story, and have come close to taking it down on numerous occasions. Thanks to Dragon Girl ... and Rae Logan, the first and second chapter of this story actually have reviews. Originally I had to post three chapter[s] before I got a review. This story is currently on five favorites lists and four alerts. At the time I am posting this chapter, it has had 1073 hits.

Anyway, what I said before still stands. I got reviews recently from three people, which convinced me that I had to get this chapter written and up. For a time, I lost both interest, and my muse for this story, but I found a new muse and got back to work. We did indeed skip four months so I can revive this thing and get going. Like I said: No reviews for this chapter equals no more story. So that's all I have to say. I guess now the only thing left to do is post this chapter and see what happens.

I actually got reviews after that. Impressive. But without reviews, I had no incentive to keep working on it, and now I'm struggling to bring it back.

Now, I'm not demanding "ten reviews, or else I won't update." When I open my inbox and see one review sitting there, it makes me happy. When someone likes my story enough to stop and leave a comment, it encourages me to keep thinking about it, to come up with more plot, and to keep the fic alive.

On the other hand, if no one reviews, why should I update? It's like Avril Lavigne said in her song Losing Grip:

If you don't care, Then I don't care, we're not going anywhere.

That's about the size of it in my mind, you know. If you don't care, why should I care?

It's really not fair to say "I want ten reviews or no more story!" When I am logged in, I can only review one chapter of your story, once. And I'm not going to log out and give you nine more reviews for the same chapter.

It's not unfair, though, to ask for one or two reviews for a chapter. I don't need ten reviews (although I would like ten reviews). All I need to tell me somone cares and wants to see the story continued is one review.

And that's my "Review Rant."

Another OC

Yep. For new FFN story that I can't quite figure out a title for. (Yet.)

This, is a Winx Club - reminiscent character, yes. But I didn't want to draw my own picture, and I wanted to use her for something. This is Titania.

I thought the design was really cool, but who am I to say. I plan to give some energy powers, and hydrokinesis. (Which is near useless in this Sonic the Hedgehog story. The fact it's an StH story probably makes this even worse. But whatever.)
Made using the konami-data.com/kids Winx Club fairy makeover game. To make your own character like this, follow the pretty hyperlink.
Winx Club belongs to Ignio Straffi. Fairy makeover game belongs to Konami. Titania belongs to The All Real numbers Symbol.

Award Sonic FF Contest '08

So here we go again....

it's time for the Sonic Fanfiction contest 2008, and one of the things needed is prizes. This is my example of what one of the prizes COULD be. It's just an example.
In the end I had to stick it on my blog 'cause Picasa fell through. @.@
